Child and Family Services of Central Manitoba is a non-profit agency that is mandated by, and provides services on behalf of, the General Authority, one of four child welfare Authorities responsible for providing service in the province of Manitoba.
The Agency is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. The Board of Directors is the legal authority of the Agency. The Board of Directors, through the hiring of an Executive Director, is responsible for ensuring that the services of the Agency are of the highest possible standards available to the community within available resources.
The Board consists of between seven and fifteen members who reflect a cross-section of communities served and diverse cultures. Board members serve three-year terms. Meetings are held monthly, with the exception of the summer months. The Annual General Meeting is typically held in June. Board members are offered a small honorarium for meetings attended, and reasonable travel expenses are compensated. Meetings are typically held in Portage la Prairie, Winkler, or Carman.
In addition to the regular meetings, board members may sit on one or more committees. The Finance Committee meets monthly, but other committees meet on an ad hoc basis several times per year.
The Board of Directors always welcomes new members who are committed to the work of the Agency and who want to make an important contribution to the community. Interested board applicants are required to complete a number of checks including a Criminal Records check, Prior Contact check, and Child Abuse Registry check, and to sign a Declaration of Confidentiality and Conflict of Interest statement.
